First electric heavy articulated trucks on UK roads

UK / Netherlands – Two 37-tonne CF Electric tractors from DAF Trucks N.V., based in Eindhoven, Netherlands, have become first battery-electric heavy articulating trucks to be operating in the UK. The vehicles are operated in collaboration with logistics firm FSEW, based in Cardiff, who will install and own the charging infrastructure necessary to support the trucks.

Paired with a motor outputting peak power of 240kW and 2,000Nm of torque from VDL, the 350kWh battery pack supports a range of up to 220km (137 miles). In addition, fast charging is supported up to 250kW.The vehicles will transport food and other goods for supermarket chain Tesco between the Wentloog rail terminal near Cardiff and the firm’s distribution centre in Magor.
