Brazil - Despite many manufacturing challenges during 2021 including component supply chain and worker shortages due to COVID leading to full production line stoppages, the Brazilian truck market grew almost 43%, according to data collated and supplied by Fenabrave (National Federation of Automotive Vehicle Distribution). For January to December 2021, 127,357 trucks were sold, an increase of 42.8% compared with 89,173 units in 2020 and also above the total volume registered in 2019 (before the COVID-19 pandemic) of 101,735 units.

The segment that drove the growth of the truck market in Brazil was the heavy truck segment, accounting for 64,753 units and representing 50.9% of the total volume sold. The semi-heavy truck segment sold 33,517 units and represented 26.3%, followed by the light truck segment with 12,091 units (9.5%), medium with 11,157 units (8.8%) and semi-light with 5,758 units (4.5%).
