BEST procuring 900 double deck all-electric air conditioned buses

Mumbai – The Brihanmumbai Electricity Supply and Transport (BEST) of Mumbai is procuring 900 all-electric double-deck buses all fitted with air conditioning, under the terms of a ‘wet lease’ contract over a period of 12 years. The project has been costed at more than USD 480m, sources said.
This new procurement is separate to earlier state government zero and low emission transportation contracts, which has already sanctioned USD 132.27m to the BEST under the Maharashtra Clean Air Project for procuring e-buses. This new bus procurement programme will be used to procure electric double-deck buses. While the first lot of 225 double-deck buses are expected this year, the next batch of 225 buses will arrive by March 2023 and the remaining 450 by June 2023, said Lokesh Chandra, BEST general manager.
