Marcopolo expands production outside Brazil in 2022

Brazil - Marcopolo SA of Caxias do Sul, one the world’s largest manufacturers of bus bodies, in its year-end report for 2021 stated production at its factories in Argentina, South Africa and Mexico increased substantially from 1,535 units in 2020 to 2,451, an increase of 59.7%. This manufacturing improvement abroad offset lower output domestically of 8,779 in 2021 compared with 10,774 units in 2020. Total worldwide production reached 11,230 units, an 8.8% reduction against 12,309 units registered in 2020. 

The Argentina plant recorded growth of 263.4% with the production of 843 units, against 232 units in 2020. The South African operation produced 240 units, an increase of 41.2% against 170 units in 2020, and the Mexican plant’s output totalled 1,063 units, an increase of  46.8% from 724 units in 2020.
