New Delhi - The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MORTH), based in New Delhi, has mandated that MORTH vehicle road-worthiness (fitness) certificates shall be released only through an ‘Automated Testing Station’ registered in accordance with the Rule 175 for recognition, regulation, and control. This will come into effect April 1, 2023, for heavy goods vehicles and heavy passenger motor vehicles (ie 16t gvw and above) and from June 1, 2024, for medium goods vehicles / medium passenger motor vehicles and light motor vehicles (transport).

The facilities are to have designated lanes for different vehicle types; with tests to include brake, speed, headlight, side slip and suspension control will be conducted with the help of automated equipment.
