Sona Comstar partners with Canada’s Enedym to produce magnet-less EV motors

India / Canada – Electric motor, components and systems supplier, Sona BLW Precision Forgings Ltd1 (Sona Comstar) of Gurugram, has formed a strategic partnership with Canadian firm, Enedym Inc2 of Hamilton, Ontario, to develop magnet-less next-generation switched reluctance motors (SRM), electric propulsion, and electrified powertrains for the Indian market. The companies envisage serial production of these systems is likely to start in 2023.
The companies will develop SRM drive platforms for Indian on-road vehicles including 2-wheel high-performance motorcycles having 10kW or greater nominal power; 3-wheel Electric Vehicles (EVs), and 4-wheel cargo delivery electric vehicles having a minimum 20kW of power.
