Volvo to build all-electric sewer cleaning trucks for Bucher Municipal

Sweden / Switzerland – Volvo Trucks Corporation of Gothenburg, Sweden has signed an agreement with sewer management firm Bucher Municipal AG of Niederweningen, Zürich, Switzerland to collaborate in the development of electric trucks for sewer cleaning applications.
Volvo Trucks has stated that the sewer cleaners will be built on FL Electric trucks – although pictured in its press release is an FE Electric model. By the end of 2023, Volvo Trucks has committed to building up to 80 zero-emission sewer trucks for Bucher Municipal, which will make up 50% of its total fleet. In doing so, Volvo Trucks hope to solve the problem of “electrifying one of the most complicated and demanding tasks in our urban environments” (in the words of company president Roger Alm).
