BelgiumThermo King Europe, a subsidiary of Trane Technologies based in Zaventum, Flemish Brabant, Belgium, has introduced a new range of heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems specifically for diesel and CNG buses, boasting reduced fuel consumption and operating costs.

The ‘Athenia Mk III’ series are roof-mounted HVAC units – compatible with bus roofs with a radius from flat to 7.5m – providing precise temperature control for the interior of the bus. Thermo King claims a range of improvements over previous offerings. The new units offer higher blower speed and higher maximum cooling performance, due to altered positioning of the evaporator and the blowers. They are lighter weight, contributing to overall fuel and cost reductions for fleets, and they are also quieter, causing less disturbance to passengers and to residents in the bus’s operating zones. Two control systems – ‘CANAIRE’ and ‘AdvanTech Fresh Air’ – allow for intuitive manual operation of the A/C units and heaters and for the automatic regulation of fresh air intake, respectively.
