UK / Egypt / IrelandVolvo Bus UK & Ireland Ltd of Warwick, UK is changing its electrification strategy for the right hand drive markets of the UK and Ireland. Following successful sales of some 21 complete full-electric Volvo 7900e single-deck city buses into the UK and Ireland, from the fourth quarter this year it will be moving to a new e-chassis and body combination for both single deck and double deck with Egypt’s MCV*, according to Phil Owen Coach and Bus Sales Director at Volvo Bus UK & Ireland.

Two vehicles will be offered initially built on the BZL single deck and double deck electric chassis that was launched by Volvo Buses in Sweden in September 2021. Owen said that production of the first double deck electric bus chassis in RHD would start week 21 at Volvo’s chassis plant in Böras, Sweden. The chassis would then be shipped to Cairo, Egypt, for body building, where the vehicle will be finished completely, before being shipped back to the UK for delivery.
