Sweden Volvo Trucks Corporation of Gothenburg, Sweden has announced a raft of alterations to its I-Shift gearbox which it claims will increase shifting speed and improve driveability.

The I-Shift gearbox is currently fitted with all heavy-duty Volvo trucks as standard. New vehicles will come with a gearbox with faster clutch actuation resulting in a shorter torque interruption and smoother gear shifting. Volvo claims that the gearbox’s shifting speed will be increased up to 30%. This was achieved through three changes: firstly, updated sensors providing more accurate data to the control unit, which is fitted with a faster microprocessor; secondly, an added disc in the gearbox brake which makes it react faster before a gear shift; thirdly, reduced air volume in the shift forks, the clutch, and the gearbox brake.
