Switch Mobility launches 12m electric bus in India
By Bradley Osborne - 6th July 2022
India / UK – Switch Mobility Ltd, a subsidiary of Ashok Leyland based in Sherburn in Elmet, UK, officially launched a new 12-metre battery-electric bus developed for the Indian market. The bus has already been available for some time, with orders currently standing at over 600 units.1
The ‘SWITCH EiV 12’ is available in two versions: a standard model and a low-floor variant. The EV architecture of the bus is equivalent to that of the recently-launched ‘e1’ bus for the European market. The batteries employ lithium ion NMC (nickel manganese cobalt) chemistry, with up to 389 kWh capacity.2 The driveline, a permanent magnet synchronous AC motor, provides 235 kW of peak power.3 Seating capacity for the standard model is between 40 and 45, and 35 for the low-floor model. The vehicle range is 300 km, but Switch claims that this could be extended to as much as 500 km in a day when fast “dual gun” charging (i.e., connecting the vehicle to an outlet with two plugs) is employed.
