Dana wins GBP2.25m grant to develop e-Powertrain for British off-road truck start-up - OX

OX Deliver - A light duty truck for Africa

UK - Dana Incorporated1 of Maumee, Ohio, has announced its operation in Birmingham, United Kingdom, has been awarded a USD 2.7 million (GBP 2.25 million) grant to develop an electric powertrain for British start up, OX Global Ltd2 of Leamington Spa, UK — which claims to be the world's first flat-pack utility light commercial vehicle with an 1,800kg payload destined for emerging markets in Africa.

The so called OX Delivers truck has been engineered to tackle the toughest terrain with a 55 degree approach and 54 degree departure angle and a fording depth of 1300mm. It says the batteries are fitted in the floor, which whilst this helps with centre of gravity, possibly could be problematic from damage from terrain or flood water. The truck is powered by Dana's Spicer Electrified eS4500i electric drive unit, which combines an electric motor, inverter, gearbox, and software in a complete e-propulsion system. The plan is for the vehicles to be be shipped as a flat pack and assembled in the destination country.
