Traffic safety vehicle electrified by SEA Electric

New Zealand / USASEA Electric of Los Angeles, California, USA has supplied New Zealand’s first electric traffic safety vehicle, put into service with Auckland-based civil engineering firm Dempsey Wood Civil Ltd under its temporary traffic management division.

The vehicle is a ‘SEA Isuzu FSD EV’ complete with a truck-mounted attenuator. It is a battery-electric truck based on the Isuzu FRR platform (12t to 14t), which has been retrofitted with a ‘SEA-Drive’ powertrain. The SEA-Drive 120b has a maximum power output of 250 kW, 2,500Nm maximum torque, and a battery capacity of 138 kWh. The battery powers the entire vehicle, including the attenuator. The truck was assembled by Blackwells Isuzu, an official Isuzu dealer based in Christchurch, with assistance from SEA Electric’s New Zealand aftersales team.
