UKTesco PLC, a supermarket chain based in Welwyn Garden City, UK, has deployed its first fully-electric truck with a temperature-controlled body, jointly developed by Renault Trucks UK of Warwick and Solomon Commercials Ltd of Haslingden.

The truck in question is an 18-tonne E-Tech D Wide fitted with a refrigerated body which is 6.4 metres long. The body has a rear shutter door and a 1500-kg column tail lift which were built to Tesco’s specification. The refrigeration is powered by a TRS Syberia 11 unit supplied by Carrier, which derives its energy from the vehicle batteries via Renault Trucks’ 600V TVJB Fridge power supply unit. Four battery packs provide a combined energy capacity of 265 kWh. The powertrain has a maximum power output of 370 kW and peak torque of 425 Nm. The truck is fitted with a reduction gearbox, offering two forward speeds and one reverse.
