Mercedes-Benz and CATL to build battery cell plant in Hungary

Germany / HungaryMercedes-Benz Group AG, an automotive corporation based in Stuttgart, Baden-Württemberg, Germany, has announced it will work together with Contemporary Amperex Technology Co Ltd (“CATL”) of Ningde, Fujian, China to build a battery facility in Debrecen, Hungary. 

The projected site at Debrecen will supply battery cells to other Mercedes-Benz battery manufactories in Germany and Hungary. The group aims to have eight battery plants across the world by the end of the decade with a combined output of more than 200 GWh, and these will support the group’s plans to transition to pure electric vehicle production.
