Hindalco, Phinergy and IOP join forces to make ‘aluminium-air’ batteries for electric vehicles and energy storage systems

India / Israel / New Delhi – Hindalco Industries Ltd of Mumbai, the metal components division of the Aditya Birla Group of Worli, Mumbai, India, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with metal chemistry engineering company, Phinergy Ltd of Tel Aviv, Israel and IOC Phinergy Private Ltd (IOP) of New Delhi (a joint venture formed in March 2021 to manufacture aluminium-air batteries for the Indian market between Phinergy and India's leading energy company, PSU Indian Oil Corporation of New Delhi) to undertake R&D and pilot production of aluminium plates for aluminium-air batteries.
Development of the aluminium plates for the batteries is to take place at Hindalco’s R&D centres in Belagavi (Karantaka) and Taloja (Maharashtra). The final production location and investments are under discussion and not disclosed.
