VWCO wins school bus tender for 2,300 Volksbuses

Volksbus 15,190 ODR - ORE 3 chassis with Neobus school bus body

Brazil Volkswagen Caminhões e Ônibus Ltda (VWCO) of Resende, Rio de Janeiro state (a Traton Group company) has won another federal-tendered bid for the school bus programme (Caminho da Escola program) and has been awarded a contract to supply 2,300 vehicles for school transport in cities and states throughout Brazil.

As part of its bid, it offered additional features with both school bus chassis models - Volksbus 8,160 ODR - ORE 1 (minibus) with capacity to carry 29 passengers and 15,190 ODR - ORE 3 (a 4x2, 12m standard height bus) with capacity for 59 people - including USB ports in each seat, a new non-slip floor, retractable seat belts, wheelchair lift and auxiliary lighting in the boarding steps. Both chassis are produced in Resende and then they are sent to Caxias do Sul where both are bodied by Marcopolo – Neobus is a subsidiary of Marcopolo.
