First Terberg electric vehicle trialled at Heathrow Airport

Terberg YT203EV piloted by IAG Cargo

UK / Netherlands – The Royal Terberg Group BV of IJsselstein, Netherlands has announced that the cargo division of International Airlines Group (IAG) is piloting a ‘YT203EV’ aircraft loader at London Heathrow Airport, making it the very first Terberg electric vehicle to be deployed at an airport.

The vehicle is based on the YT series of terminal tractors which are designed for port and yard operations, with the engine replaced by a battery-electric driveline. IAG will trial the vehicle for a year, using it to pull trailers carrying ULD air containers. Terberg claims that replacing a diesel terminal tractor with an electric one would save approximately 30 tonnes in CO2 emissions per year, which is equivalent to planting over a million trees or taking more than 6,000 cars off the road.
