First Bus appoint Equipmake to repower York’s EV fleet

Equipmake repowers Optare Versa e-buses at its HQ in Norfolk

UK - Electric drivetrain manufacturer, Equipmake Ltd has been commissioned by UK public transport operator, First Bus (owned by FirstGroup Plc), of Aberdeen, to repower 12 Optare Versa electric buses currently operating in the city of York with its Equipmake’s Zero Emission Drivetrain (ZED).

Work on the first Versa bus is underway at Equipmake’s headquarters in Snetterton, Norfolk, with the first repowered bus expected to be back on the roads by November this year. Equipmake claims that by using a larger battery, its own HVAC energy management system, and power management software that optimises the electrical energy to the different service routes, the bus will have a minimum range of at least 150 miles in all UK weather conditions.
