UK – Wrightbus of Ballymena, UK has received an additional order for 100 zero-emission buses to serve in Northern Ireland, following the announcement of GBP88m in government funding for Translink (the brand name of the Northern Ireland Transport Holding Company) to pay for the vehicles and additional charging infrastructure.
The contract comprises a mix of single- and double-deck battery-electric buses. They are set to enter service in the summer of 2024. The plan is to allocate 40 buses to Ulsterbus services in the North-West, Coleraine and Craigavon, while the remainder will bolster the existing zero-emission Metro fleet in Belfast.
