Volvo Trucks launches 500-horsepower gas trucks

Volvo FH gas-powered truck

SwedenVolvo Trucks Corporation of Gothenburg, Sweden has announced that it is now offering gas trucks with up to 500 horsepower (approximately 373 kilowatts) in the FH and FM ranges.

These heavy truck ranges were previously offered with two options – 420 and 460 hp gas engines – running on liquified natural gas (LNG) and liquified biogas (Bio-LNG). Volvo has said that all three engines now on offer to customers will be up to 4% more fuel efficient than before. This was achieved by the inclusion of upgraded components, including new injectors, pistons, turbo, variable oil pump and crank case ventilation. In addition, new Volvo gas trucks will have a tank carrying up to 10% more fuel, providing a range of up to 1,000 kilometres.
