UK proposes formal changes to weight limits to accommodate low- and zero-emission vehicles

UK – The Department of Transport of the UK government has published a proposed series of amendments to current regulations on authorised road vehicle weights which would give greater leeway to heavier powertrains in zero-emission vehicles and vehicles propelled by alternative fuels. 

The draft proposals would allow weight limit increases of two tonnes for zero-emission vehicles and up to one tonne for “alternatively fuelled” vehicles. The extra allowances would apply only to certain weight categories and axle configurations, defined as follows:
