Sweden / PolandVolvo Bus Corporation of Gothenburg, Sweden has announced that it plans to sell its bus bodybuilding factory in Wrocław, Poland – owned by Volvo since 1996 – as it decides to focus solely on chassis production for the European bus market.

Volvo Buses plans to wrap up its operations in Wrocław by the end of the first quarter of 2024. It will fulfil all outstanding orders and continue to service buses built at Wrocław. Investment firm Vargas Holding AB of Stockholm, Sweden – a supporter of green tech start-ups including battery manufacturer Northvolt – has written a Letter of Intent, agreeing to purchase the facility from Volvo Buses for a different use (so far undisclosed). 1,500 jobs in Wrocław are affected, and 1,600 overall.
