UK / USARicardo plc, an engineering consultancy based in Shoreham-by-Sea, UK, has released a progress update on ‘Project Brunel’, an R&D initiative into hydrogen combustion spearheaded by Cummins Inc of Columbus, Indiana, USA and funded by the Advanced Propulsion Centre (APC).

According to Ricardo, it has produced a prototype internal combustion engine and sent it off to Cummins and BorgWarner Inc1, who are partners in the APC project. Ricardo says that its hydrogen engine is built for research purposes only and is based off its single cylinder research units. It will be used by engineers to evaluate a range of different injector types.
