Brazil - Gas supplier, Companhia Paranaense de Gás (Compagas) of Curitiba, State of Paraná and truck builder, Scania Latin America Ltda of São Bernardo do Campo, São Paulo have signed a partnership to boost use of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and biomethane in heavy vehicles in Brazil. The partnership was officially announced during the companies' participation in the 5th South Brazilian Biogas and Biomethane Forum, held in Foz do Iguaçu, in the western region of Paraná. During the official announcement, the companies highlighted the importance of working together on projects to develop the use of gas in heavy transport, including buses and trucks, and the infrastructure of CNG refuelling stations – referred to as ‘Blue Corridors’  (see below) - so that these vehicles can run with a more efficient and eventually a sustainable fuel of biomethane.

Among the projects carried out by the two companies is a demonstration project that has a Scania CNG-powered bus operating in the city and Metropolitan Region of Curitiba. In March, the CNG-powered covered more than 280 kilometres a day, operating between the capital of Paraná and the neighbouring municipality, São José dos Pinhais. This bus is part of the sustainable urban mobility project based on the use of natural gas, carried out by Compagas and Scania, together with the Metropolitan Affairs Agency of Paraná (AMEP) and the State Government.
