Volvo Trucks rolls out electric heavy truck range in Brazil

BrazilVolvo Trucks Latin America Ltda of Curitiba, Paraná State has started trials of electric truck models in Brazil.

The Volvo FM Electric model is the first demonstration model; a tractor unit with an output of up to 490kW (660hp) and a total combined vehicle gross weight of up to 44 tonnes. It can be equipped with three different sizes of electric motor and up to six battery packs to offer a maximum energy storage of 540kWh, offering a range of up to 300 kilometres, making it suitable for operations in urban areas. Plug-in charging, at the operator’s yard, takes between 1.5 and eight hours, depending on the number of batteries and type of charger used. Fitted with air suspension on all axles, it is a global product optimized for energy regeneration during braking and downhill operation. Volvo says it is a great alternative for applications close to residential areas and for operation in closed environments such as sheds and warehouses, for example.
