Volksbus bus chassis production line in Resende is 30 years old

The first Volksbus 16.180 bus chassis built in 1993

Brazil – The Volksbus bus chassis production line at Volkswagen Caminhões e Ônibus Ltda in Resende, Rio de Janeiro has achieved 30 years of manufacturing output. Production of the Volksbus chassis range began in 1993 with just one model, the VW 16.180 CO – the first unit was sold to an operator for municipal bus operations in the city of Rio de Janeiro (RJ). A few years later the VW 18.310 OT model was launched, the company’s first coach chassis, which was sold to Viação Pluma, and operated on a route between Curitiba (PR) and the Andes Mountains, covering seven countries in South America. Today more than 175,000 Volksbus chassis units have produced in more than 50 versions.

Sales of VWCO's latest models that are compliant with the new Euro 6 emissions standards introduced in January this year, have already exceeded more than 500 chassis, with purchases being made based on fuel efficiency improvements of 5%, VWCO claims.
