VWCO tests electric bus prototype

Volksbus elétrico prototype bus

Brazil – Announcing the development at the end of 2022, the truck and bus builder from Resende, Rio de Janeiro state (RJ), Volkswagen Caminhões e Ônibus Ltda says it has recently just started testing its first 100% electric bus prototype. Trials have been conducted mainly on the company’s proving ground at its world research centre in Resende - including an inaugural trip with passengers on routes within the factory itself - as well as on the streets of nearby cities. (No details have yet been released on the vehicle specification or on the body builder used to build the prototype).

Roberto Cortes, president and CEO of Volkswagen Caminhões e Ônibus said: “It's been 30 years since the creation of our Volksbus bus line and we've accumulated enough mileage to understand and even anticipate market needs. The result reverts in sales: we are growing above the market, and we are launching more chassis models, and, at the same time, we are starting tests with our first 100% electric prototype.”
