UK / Sweden – ‘Volta Zero’, a range of battery electric trucks developed by Volta Trucks AB of Stockholm, Sweden, has received a five-star rating from Transport for London’s Direct Vision Standard after being assessed as “industry-leading” in promoting driver visibility.

The Volta Zero’s unconventional design positions the driver in the middle of the cab and places his eye-line at approximately 1.8 metres above the road. (The driver’s eye-line in a conventional truck is well above 2 metres.) The “glasshouse-style” cab provides a 220-degree field of direct visibility. Testing adduced a volumetric score1 of 32.82 cubic metres, the highest ever achieved by a vehicle assessed for the Direct Vision Standard (the second-best score being 22 cubic metres).
