India - Watson & Chalin India Pvt. Ltd. (formerly known as Hendrickson Commercial Vehicle Systems India Pvt. Ltd.)¹ of Pune, a manufacturer and supplier of axle and suspension system has launched a range of trailer axle products that are new to the Indian market. This includes a heavy duty 14 ton gaw axle with, for the first time on the Indian market, air suspension (TA 14 – Heavy Duty Air Suspension²), a heavy duty single axle (Single Axle – Heavy Duty Trailer Axle³) and a 16 ton lighter weight axle - the MS 16 – Heavy Duty Mechanical Suspension^{4 -} with mechanical suspension for trailer applications in India. All three products, it is understood, are to be manufactured locally as part of the “Make in India” Initiative by the Indian Government.

According to Watson & Chalin, the Indian market for mechanical suspensions on trailers is currently about 40,000 trailers, of which its sales it claims, account for about 70% of the market. However, in recent years, Watson & Chalin states there has been a noticeable migration to air suspensions and that the numbers are expected to gain momentum as road infrastructure improves and increases and customer expectations rise for use of better technologies and higher standards in road transportation.
