Lunaz displays its first repowered waste truck at Cenex announcing multi-year conversion contract with Biffa, UK

Lunaz repowered waste truck

UK – Based at the Silverstone Technology Park in Northamptonshire, startup repowering company, Lunaz Group Ltd, demonstrated its first repowered electric refuse collection truck (lorry) at the 2023 Cenex Event in Millbrook, UK, which took place from the 6th to the 7th of September. A new partnership agreement with London waste management company, Biffa, will see Lunaz convert older vehicles to electric. In Lunaz words the vehicles are ‘upcycled’ instead of scrapped, as Biffa transitions its fleet to zero-emission powertrains.

This multi-year deal signed earlier this year, ensures that an initial order of up to ten 26-tonne Mercedes-Benz Econic diesel-powered refuse vehicles will be repowered with Lunaz electric drivetrains, saving an estimated 210 tonnes of carbon a year. Furthermore, Lunaz points to independent studies citing that 80% of carbon is saved repowering a vehicle when compared with building a new one.
