UK – Electric drivetrain manufacturer, Equipmake Ltd has been commissioned by Welsh bus operator, Newport Transport, to repower 8 ICE double-decker buses with its electric drivetrain, making it Equipmake’s first foray into the Welsh market. Speaking to Jasmine Bishop (Head of Sales at Equipmake) at this past Cenex Event in Millbrook, she confirmed that of the eight buses, five are diesel ADL E400s and the remaining three are diesel-electric hybrid Volvo B5LHs with Wrightbus Gemini bodies. The ADL buses are set to be equipped with 382kW/h of battery capacity which will deliver 150 miles (241kms) of range. The Volvo buses on the other hand will be equipped with 218kW/h of energy storage providing a 90-mile (144km) range.

Bishop confirmed that the conversions will take place at Equipmake’s headquarters in Snetterton, Norfolk, and delivery is expected to be completed by the end of the year. The contract is worth GBP 1.48 million.
