Saudi Arabia / China – Chinese bus manufacturer, Higer Bus Co Ltd of Suzhou, Jiangsu Province, China has completed the delivery of 780 Higer buses and coaches worth RMB 400 million (USD55m) to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia under the “Belt and Road Initiative”, signifying the largest ever bus export from China to Saudi Arabia. With Saudi Arabia destined to join the BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) economic bloc on January 1, 2024, this could pave the way for closer cooperation between the two nations and possibly more bus orders for Higer.

Whilst we have not yet received confirmation of the specifics regarding the mixed order of 780 buses, we know that the buses have been purpose-built to handle the sweltering hot desert temperatures. The buses are ICE vehicles, making use of the abundance of crude oil in the Persian Gulf. Higer stated that there are now more than 4,000 of its buses in operation in Saudi Arabia, ranging from school buses to city buses and tourist buses.
