UK – Start-up e-powertrain retrofitter, Kleanbus Ltd* of Scarborough, UK, has won a contract from Scottish bus operator Lothian Buses, to repower 18 Volvo B5TLS diesel ICE buses to electric drive. This will help Lothian in its bid to run a fully zero-emission bus fleet by 2035 and allow the operator to avoid the cost of purchasing more expensive new electric buses.

Kleanbus states it will use its new “advanced modular electric platform,” (a modular driveline package) which combines battery-electric powertrain components from unnamed Tier 1 suppliers with its own integration technology and proprietary software, with a conversion taking just two weeks once a system has been designed and tested. According to Kleanbus, conversions cost just 20% of the cost of a new Battery-electric bus and offer, when completed, significantly lower emissions.
