State of Odisha orders 122 premium intercity Volvo 9600 coaches

The Volvo 9600 intercity tri-axle coach for Odisha

India Volvo Buses India Pvt Ltd of Bangalore, a wholly-owned subsidiary of VE Commercial Vehicles Ltd (VECV) of Pithampur has received an order for 122 premium luxury coaches (Volvo 9600)1 from the Odisha State Road Transportation Corporation (OSRTC) under the Location Accessible Multi-modal Initiative (LAccMI)2 Scheme; a flagship programme of the Government of Odisha's Commerce & Transport (C&T) Department, which is aimed at enhancing road passenger transport connectivity.

Scheduled for delivery in 2025, the Volvo 9600 coaches, will connect major districts and business hubs to the state capital, Bhubaneswar, and Jagannath Dham Puri, known as the Jagannath Express & Laxmi Express, respectively. The coaches are to be built at the Volvo Buses India factory in Hoskote in accordance with the Automotive Indian Standard (Code AIS 119).
