Mahle Powertrain expands hydrogen testing capabilities in Northampton
By Bradley Osborne - 30th July 2024
UK – Mahle Powertrain Ltd, the British engineering subsidiary of German automotive components firm Mahle GmbH, has announced it is expanding its Northampton site with a new facility dedicated to hydrogen powertrain testing, supporting applications in the commercial vehicle, offroad, and marine sectors.
The new facility, which is already in use, incorporates a test chamber and engine dynamometers with nominal capacities of 900 kilowatts and 4,000 Nm. With space to hold two tube-trailers onsite with rapid switchover functionality between them, Mahle Powertrain says the testing facility will have a near-continuous supply of hydrogen. Potential gas escape from the site is monitored and handled by a system designed by Mahle Powertrain.
