UK / Portugal – Porto-based vehicle battery pack manufacturer AddVolt* has partnered with electric refrigeration system manufacturer Hulsteins to merge its Ecogen2** clip-on hydraulic generator with Addvolt’s powerpacks***, an energy system that enables the electrification of refrigerated transport vehicles. This will enable  100% electrically-powered refrigeration trucking solutions for operators in the UK and Ireland. According to Hulsteins, the benefit lies in reducing emissions, fuel use and noise while converting existing diesel refrigeration units to electric power without needing entirely new equipment. Operators can also recharge the powerpacks at the warehouse or during operation. This of course helps fleets to drive efficiency whilst reducing emissions.

*Addvolt, a Portuguese battery development specialist, based in Porto, offers a range of battery products targeting the electric refrigeration market. The firm can provide battery packs as small as 5kWh for short-range refrigeration, and up to a maximum of 35kWh for long-range trailers. In March of 2021, Addvolt entered a strategic partnership with Carrier to improve the integration of electric refrigeration units, batteries, and telematics. Additionally, firm’s trailer batteries have been utilised on the latest electric refrigeration platforms showcased by Carrier, Lamberet, and Chereau at the 2023 Solutrans show in Lyon.
