Karsan e-Atak set to become the first autonomous e-bus in Sweden

Karsan Autonomous e-ATAK

Sweden / Turkey – After becoming the first autonomous (level 4) e-bus in Switzerland and Finland last year, Turkish bus manufacturer, Karsan Otomotiv Sanayii ve Tic. A.Ş based in Bursa is set to achieve the same feat, this time in Sweden. The Karsan Level 4 autonomous e-ATAK is set to start carrying passengers in Gothenburg between the Central Station and Liseberg Station in August 2025. US technology partner, Adastec who designed the automated driving software (flowride.ai) has worked closely with Gothenburg's transit agency to integrate its software with the city’s infrastructure creating a safe and viable route through the city.  This will allow the bus to travel without a driver on a planned route at speeds of up to 50 kilometres per hour.

The Karsan Level 4 autonomous e-ATAK can perform driverless operations, including approaching stops, managing stop times, managing the boarding and alighting of passengers, and navigating and responding to intersections, crossings, traffic circles, and traffic lights. It is able also to travel in all weather conditions, both day and night. This is because the 8 metre, 22-seat (52-person) low-floor city bus is equipped with LiDAR sensors, radar technology, RGB cameras, and thermal cameras to autonomously detect its surroundings.
