BatX Energies lithium-ion battery recycling facility in Uttar Pradesh

India - BatX Energies Pvt Ltd of Gurugram, Haryana state, a lithium-ion battery recycling company has inaugurated a battery mineral extraction and recycling plant, called HUB-1, in Sikandrabad in the neighbouring state of Uttar Pradesh; marking a key step, says the company in the recovery of key minerals such as lithium, cobalt, nickel, and manganese from used lithium-ion batteries. The new facility is to support India’s growing EV sector by reducing the country’s minerals import dependency, and to endeavour to attain the Indian government’s goal of achieving Net Zero by 2070.

Building on the success of its ‘Black Mass’ facility, also in Sikandrabad, Uttar Pradesh, launched in 2022, HUB-1 is the result of a 21-month pilot programme designed to refine the process of extracting high-purity materials like lithium, cobalt, nickel, and manganese from used lithium-ion batteries. Using BatX’s advanced chemical process, the plant can recycle all types of battery waste, including manufacturing scraps from large battery factories (gigafactories).
