SAIC Motor halts production of pickup trucks in Thailand

Thailand / China - Chinese state-owned automaker SAIC Motor Corporation, headquartered in Shanghai, announced last month that it has halted production of its MG Extender pickup truck in Thailand until demand in the country improves significantly.

The announcement came after the Thai domestic pickup truck market plunged by 38% to 163,328 units last year, as local banks and finance companies tightened lending in response to soaring non-performing loans (NPLs). In this environment, all brands suffered sharp declines.
