Hexagon Purus delivers first Type IV hydrogen cylinders

CIMC-Hexagon factory in Shijiazhuang

China / Norway – Manufactured in Shijiazhuang, China, through its joint venture CIMC-Hexagon*, Oslo-based Hexagon Purus ASA has delivered its first batch of 380-bar Type IV high-pressure hydrogen cylinders to Europe. Because they are made with a polymer liner and fully wrapped in carbon fibre composite, they are lightweight and high-capacity, making them ideal for fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs), including buses, trucks, and other heavy-duty commercial vehicles. Their lightweight nature allows for greater payload capacity, and their high-pressure rating (typically 350–700 bar) makes them suitable for storing enough hydrogen to support long-range operations.

According to the company, Hexagon’s Type IV cylinders are also used in hydrogen distribution modules, but these serve as part of the fuelling infrastructure that supports commercial vehicle fleets. Furthermore, these cylinders have received European TPED (Transportable Pressure Equipment Directive) certification, ensuring compliance with stringent safety and quality standards.
