AEM licenses magnet-free motor technology to an Indian automotive component manufacturer

AEM magnet-free motor technology

India / UKAdvanced Electric Machines Ltd (AEM), based in Washington, UK, an electric motor manufacturer spun out from Newcastle University, has licensed its rare-earth-free electric motor technology to Sterling Tools, an Indian automotive component supplier, enabling its subsidiary, Sterling Gtake E-mobility (SGEM) to manufacture AEM motors for the Indian and Southeast Asian markets. The agreement strengthens AEM’s footprint in Asia and coincides with a new trade agreement between the UK and India. AEM and SGEM are well-positioned to accelerate electrification efforts across CV fleets in Southeast Asia.

A standout feature of AEM’s motor design is sustainability: for example, the HDRM300 series contains no rare earth metals and is fully recyclable. Thanks to patented switched reluctance technology, the motors eliminate the need for materials such as neodymium and dysprosium, whose mining processes can have severe ecological and geopolitical consequences.
