Volvo adds aerodynamic options to heavy trucks to reduce fuel consumption by 2%

Cab airflow stabilisers on a Volvo truck cab

Sweden – In May, Volvo Trucks Corporation of Gothenburg, Sweden announced that it will roll out aerodynamic options across some of its heavy truck models, which together can reduce fuel consumption by up to 2%.

In the ‘FH’, ‘FH Aero’, and ‘FM’ series, Volvo will provide extended air deflectors and modified chassis fairings as optional cab modifications to improve fuel economy, decrease emissions, and increase range. These will be offered not only for its diesel and natural gas trucks, but also for its electric models. The air deflectors extend the cab by 50mm, reducing the gap between the back of the cab and the trailer, whereas the chassis fairings align better with the rear fender.
