Volvo introduces automatic speed restriction option in new trucks

SwedenVolvo Trucks Corporation of Gothenburg, Sweden has announced that it is introducing a new function in its trucks which will allow operators to set automatic speed limits that come into effect when the vehicle enters pre-defined speed-limited zones.

Volvo’s new ‘Safety Zones’ feature, available through its ‘Volvo Connect’ digital services, allows operators to “geofence” certain locations, such as a port or a logistics centre, and assign specific speed limits (20 km/h and above). When the truck enters the area, it will automatically brake to slow down to the specified speed limit and sets the engine and cruise control to obey the restriction. The driver is notified in the instrument display and may override the function by doing a kick-down on the accelerator pedal. Every entry, exit, override, and speed violation event is recorded by Volvo Connect.
