Fleet of 100 autonomous trucks deployed in Chinese mine

Launch event for the fleet of 100 autonomous heavy trucks

China - Huawei Technologies Company Ltd (Huawei), headquartered in Shenzhen, China, announced that a fleet of one hundred heavy-duty autonomous battery-powered mining trucks it helped develop went into operation at an open cast coal mine in Yimin, in China’s Inner Mongolia Province. The company claims it is the largest fleet of self-driving heavy-duty electric trucks to go into operation in open pit coal mining globally.

The Huaneng Ruichi autonomous trucks were produced by Xuzhou Construction Machinery Group (XCMG) and are controlled via a 5G-Advanced (5G-A) vehicle-cloud-network, which Huawei claims has set a new benchmark for intelligent mining. The trucks were developed in partnership with Huawei, state-owned electricity generator China Huaneng Group and State Grid Smart Internet of Vehicles Company Ltd.
