Chery announces CV powertrain collaboration with Cummins

Chery’s newly-launched Phoenix “super” truck range

China / USA - Chery Commercial Vehicles Co Ltd, the commercial vehicle unit of the Chinese state-owned automaker, Chery Automobile Company based in Wuhu, Anhui Province, has signed a strategic partnership with Cummins (China) Investment Company Ltd, for a joint development of multi-fuel vehicle powertrains and smart vehicle technologies. The two companies also plan to collaborate on the expansion of Chery’s commercial vehicle operations globally.

The deal was announced during the launch of Chery’s new Phoenix Series of “super” heavy trucks, during which the company announced it had already received pre-orders for 100 units. The trucks were developed using Cummins’ latest powertrain technologies and include the Jin Phoenix natural gas-powered model fitted with Cummins’ 15N FE engine and Eaton-Cummins’ automated manual transmission, which delivers 630 hp. The Yuan Phoenix diesel-powered models are fitted with Cummins’ M13 engine.
