Volvo acquires battery cell laboratory from Northvolt joint venture

SwedenAB Volvo, the parent company of several commercial vehicle brands1 based in Gothenburg, Sweden, has acquired a local battery laboratory from Novo Energy AB, expanding its research and development capabilities in battery cell chemistry.

The transaction completed on 1 July for an undisclosed sum. Volvo has acquired the former Novo premises in Gothenburg and associated staff, who are now going through the company’s onboarding process. Volvo commented that the acquisition will enhance its competency in battery cell and battery materials development.
