UK – UK electric repower specialist KleanDrive (owned by Kleanbus Ltd*) has partnered with Welch Group, a long-standing Cambridgeshire haulage and HGV servicing provider, to retrofit Renault D‑Series 18-tonne rigid trucks with fully electric drivetrains. Speaking with Joe Tighe, founder of KleanDrive, this will be the company’s first truck retrofit, having already completed two bus retrofits up until this point. The modular, plug-and-play electric platform will be slightly different to the one used in the diesel bus conversions.

The KleanDrive conversion system is a modular, 'plug-and-play' drivetrain that replaces the diesel engine and transmission in traditional ICE trucks. The system includes a 352 kWh LFP battery pack (from CATL), which offers an estimated range of approximately 195 miles (313 km) under typical operating conditions. The system also incorporates a Voith electric motor. This innovative solution aims to provide a cost-effective and environmentally friendly alternative to purchasing new electric buses.
