UK / Spain – Spanish electric bus manufacturer Irizar eMobility, based in Aduna, Gipuzkoa (and part of the Irizar Group of Ormaiztegi, Spain), has secured a contract from London Gatwick Airport for the supply of 14 fully electric Irizar ie tram buses. The new fleet will replace the airport’s current diesel shuttle buses and will serve the landside route between the North and South terminals.
All 14 vehicles will be manufactured at Irizar’s facility in Aduna, with deliveries scheduled to begin in late 2025. The contract forms part of a wider GBP 14 million infrastructure investment programme by Gatwick Airport, which includes the development of new ultra-fast charging stations at the long-stay car parks. Once operational, the fleet is expected to become fully active by early 2026.
