BYD set to expand CV factory in Hungary

BYD Europe plant in Komárom

Hungary / Netherlands BYD Europe BV of Schiedam, Netherlands - the European subsidiary of Shenzhen, China-based BYD Auto Co Ltd – has announced it will expand its electric truck and bus factory in Komárom, northwestern Hungary, with a USD 90 investment. The investment, which will take place over the next two years, is designed to increase production capacity and meet growing European demand for zero-emission commercial vehicles. The expansion is set to begin in late 2025 and is expected to be completed by early 2027. The Komárom plant, which has been operational since 2017, currently manufactures battery-electric buses and trucks exclusively for the European market. These include the 12-metre BYD eBus and a range of eTrucks targeted at logistics and municipal services.

The factory presently produces over 400 vehicles annually, with capacity expected to double post-expansion. All vehicles built at the site are fully electric, supporting the EU’s push for decarbonising public and commercial transport.
